Diabetes is a long-term health condition that affects how your body converts food into energy.

It takes several years to develop and is commonly diagnosed in adults, but studies have shown that it is becoming more and more common in children, teens, and young adults. Since some signs can go unnoticed, it is important to have your blood sugar checked if you are at risk. Type 2 diabetes can be avoided or slowed by making healthier lifestyle improvements such as losing weight, consuming healthy foods, and getting enough exercise.
